Osteoporosis is the disease of the bone. The bone becomes thinner, weaker and breaks easily.

What can make one to be at risk of osteoporosis?.

1. An hormone called oestrogen that  helps to protect the bone decreases when a woman reaches menopause. This is because the ovaries make little of hormones.
This increases the possibility of osteoporosis as a woman reaches menopause.

2. Premature ovarian failure- when the ovary stops to function properly before the age of 40. When this happens the hormone (estrogen) produced will not be sufficient or enough to take care of bone health.

3. Nutritional deficiencies- Vitamin D and calcium work together and they are vital to bone health. If an individual doesn’t receive enough of the two it will have a negative impact on bone health.

 4. Smoking.

5. Taking alcohol.

6. Having family history of frequent falls, fracture and low bone mass.
7. Surgery where the ovaries and uterus were removed.
