Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday had a clash in Port Harcourt, Rivers State
Members of the ruling party, PDP had earlier protested in front of the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) along Aba Road in Port Harcourt.
The demand of the protesters was that there should be a joint inspection of election materials by all political parties.
It was reported that the governorship candidate of the APC in the state, Tonye Cole last Friday had disclosed that he would storm the INEC office on Monday to demand the release of Certified True Copies of documents used for the March 18 governorship election to enable the party file processes at the election petition tribunal.
According to reports , supporters of the PDP were at the INEC office, when Cole, the state APC Chairman, Emeka Beke and other party leaders showed up at the GRA area of Aba Road and were proceeding to the INEC office.
The protesting youths who sited him raced in his direction, and pelted stones and water sachets at him.
The security operatives attached to Cole immediately shielded him and whisked him into the vehicle, but the protesters continued pelting sachet water in his direction.
