This is not a good time for students of Taraba State University as the institurion’s chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike action.
The decision was reached at the congress meeting, where the union insisted to go ahead with the strike. The blamed government’s failure to pay earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, fractional payment of salaries to staff as well as unsettled staff pension and gratuity scheme for their latest action.
Mr Samuel Shitaa, the Taraba State University ASUU Chairman, noted that one of the reasons for the industrial action includes its demands and the state government’s rebuttal of claims that it is not owing workers salaries.
non implementation of agreements and perimeter fencing of the institution.
The state government in response to the strike wondered why ASUU would take such a decision when the present government is doing everything possible to address the issues before leaving office.
