Sam Empowerment Foundation (SEF) an NGO, has, commissioned three blocks of toilet facilities and some renovated classrooms at Junior Secondary School (JSS) Gwarimpa, FCT, to help improve learning.
The Project Director of the foundation, Mrs Kiema Ogunlana, in her remarks at the commissioning, said the Foundation has an unwavering passion to improve the quality of lives of children and women living in vulnerable conditions.
Ogunlana said the commitment has brought hope, happiness, and light to thousands of Nigerians through programs that focus on health, education, empowerment, capacity building, psychosocial development and other forms of support.
According to her, one of the major drivers of infectious disease and discomfort in our society today, is lack of access to good toilet facilities.
“When individuals do not have the privilege of accessing standard places to relieve themselves, it does not just affect them, it also poses as health challenge to those around them.
“This is why the construction of these new toilet blocks and the renovation of classrooms is so important as it represents a commitment by our organisation to ensure that the children have access to a safe and healthy learning environment.
“With these new facilities in place, these children can focus on their studies without worrying about the lack of basic amenities as we want every child to be in school and value education,” she said.
She revealed that the foundation serves to increase the public understanding on the benefit of supporting educational advancement and supporting students in the country.
However, she added that the organization was committed to ensure that the less privileged in the country have access to education and quality health care.
“This is why we go beyond just advocating for good health, but in our efforts to improve the learning environment in Gwarimpa Community.
“The commissioning of these new facilities represents a step forward towards a better future for our children and I encourage teachers and students of this prestigious school to take good care of the facilities.
“I am confident that together we will continue to make progress in ensuring that children especially orphaned and vulnerable children receive the quality education they deserve,” she said.
The District Head of Gwarimpa Community, HRH Prince Umar Bayaro, lauded the good gesture, and urged others to emulate the Foundation.
Bayaro urged others to assist the less privileged in the society, stating that one must not be rich before giving back to the society .
According to him, all relevant stakeholders need to imbibe the culture of giving back to the society, no matter how small it is.
