The National Institute for Hospitality & Tourism Studies (NIHOTOUR) has said it would want to be included in Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) funding programme for higher education institutes in the country.
The Director Genereal of the Institution, Mr. Nura Sani Kangiwa made this disclosure on Tuesday during a meeting with Nigeria Board on Technical Education (NBTE) on NVQ & SSC monitoring and evaluation.
He said the Institution has been involved in training of manpower in the sector, which is regarded as one of the largest employer of labour in the country.
He said, “We also wish to passionately appeal to NBTE management to consider profiling NIHOTOUR in the list of institutions it sends to TETFUND to enable us access intervention funds for skill trainings, specialized skills qualification training for our personnel as well as for infrastructural development.
He said the institute is doing everything possible to meet the high demand skill gap in the sector.
He stressed that since the institute serves as a training centre for personnel in hospitality and tourism trades.
Supporting the idea, NBTE Acting Executive Secretary, Ekpenyoung E. Ekpenyoung said point made by the institute was a valid one.
Ekpenyoung who was reperensented by Hushani Muhammad, Director Vocational, Technical and Skill Development, however said NBTE will continue to monitor the activities of the institute and where necessary advise.
He said the essence of the meeting was to see what the Council of the institute has been being doing and how NBTE can help it improve on its mandate.
