NAYA calls for improvement of Youth Friendly Model Clinics in Kuje

Novel Association for Youth Advocacy (NAYA) A Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, has called on Kuje Area Council and other stakeholders to revamp the Youth Friendly Model Clinics in Kiyi PHC and PEGI PHC for health improvement in the area.

Mrs Rosemary Adaji, the National Coordinator of the group who made the call in Kuje, during a curtsey visit to Dr Emmanuel Okpetu, Director for Health, Primary Healthcare Kuje Area Council, FCT, said there was need to create a separate budgetary allocation for Adolescent Youth Friendly Initiatives in the area.

Adaji said there was need to establish and ensure evidence-based practices for adolescent and youth-friendly health services be integrated into existing routine services in primary health care facilities.

According to her, there was need to Promote awareness and utilisation among young people of available adolescents and youth friendly clinics in PHC host communities in the area.

She noted thar the government should Promote the development of other sustainable financing mechanisms for adolescent and Youth Friendly Health programme and services.

“Create and fund a specific budget for Adolescent and Youth Friendly Health Services that includes contraceptive information and services.

“Promote the development of other sustainable financing mechanisms for adolescent and Youth Friendly Health programme and services.

“Establish and enforce evidence-based practices that ensure adolescents and friendly health services are integrated into existing routine services in Primary health care facilities.

“Specifically, the Youth Friendly Model Clinics in Kiyi PHC and PEGI PHC should be revamped.

“Promote awareness and utilisation among young people of available adolescents and youth friendly clinics in PHC host communities.

“The health of adolescents was missing at the middle and we therefore call on policymakers to pay close attention to adolescent health for a better society.

“The adolescents need to have a separate budget line in the federal ministry of health in all the sub-nationals and local government areas,” she said.

She further urged the FCT administration to promote awareness and utilisation among young people of available adolescent youth-friendly health services in Primary Health Centers.

On his part, Dr Emmanuel Okpetu, Director for Health, Primary Healthcare Kuje Area Council, FCT, said the groups demand were noted and would chanel them to the appropriate chanel for intervention. (NAN)
