Bread makers in the country are threatening to down tools should the Federal Government fail to address their issues in the next two weeks.
The bakers and caterers said the action has become necessary following the incessant hike in prices of baking and catering ingredients in the country.
Failure by the government to address the issues, the bakers said they would withdraw their services from 23rd September 2021, to press home their demands.
The issues needed to be address include: downward review of NAFDAC tariff; issue of multiple regulation; hike in coat of flour and other baking and catering materials.
The bakers under the umbrella body of Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria (AMBCN) stressed that the issue of multiple regulations and incessant hike in price of materials have forced many of it’s members out of business.
The group therefore warned that the withdrawal of services will be total nationwide should the government fail in addressing the issues.
In a statement signed by Alhaji Mansur Umar and Hon. Jude Okafor, National President and National Secrtary respectively, the action would be the last resort in the effort to resolve the incessant hike in prices of baking and catering ingredients.
Besides, the group also lamented the 100% upward review of NAFDAC tarrif regime, something they said has impacted on cost of production.
The statement reads in part: “Consequently, the National Executive of Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria hereby resolved that effective 23rd of September 2021, all it’s members nationwide are directed to commence total withdrawal of services for a period of one week in the first instance.
” Within this period, members are advised to carryout comprehensive fumigation of their bakeries.
“The National Executive Council shall reconvene as at when necessary to take further decisions” should the government still fail to do anything.
