Following the submission of the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Federal Government has been urged to immediately inaugurate the board of the commission.
The inauguration of the board had been placed on hold to allow for the forensic audit of the commission.
The audit report was submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday after months of commissioning the audit.
President Buhari while receiving the report on Thursday, vowed to investigate, prosecute and recover funds from contractors, firms and politicians indicted by in audit report.
The President noted that N6trillion had been invested in the NDDC since its creation in 2001 without any significant results.
Reacting to the submission of the report, the 21st century youths of Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience ( 21st CYNDAC) said it is hoped that the leakages in the administrative structure that facilitated the wanton corruption and malfeasance that riddled the commission would be checked if the recommendations of the auditors are adhered to, also the managemen
Consequently, the group called on the Federal Hovernment to as a matter of urgency inaugurate the board of the commission to avoid further vacuum.
The group in a statement also urged government to do everything possible to douse the tension in the Oil rich region by creating an enabling environment with quick inauguration of the substantive board already screened and confirm by the senate.
The statement which was signed by the leader of the group, Mr. Izon Ebi, reads: “The 21st century youths of Niger Delta and Agitators with
Conscience ( 21st CYNDAC) commend the Honourable Minister Sen Godswill Akpabio for delivering on the mandate assigned him by Mr President on the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC to the federal government.
“We hope that by the conclusion of the forensic audit, the leakages in the administrative structure that facilitated the wanton corruption and malfeasance that riddled the commission would be checked if the recommendations of the auditors are adhered to, also the management structure of the commission should be rejigged for better service delivery to the long-suffering people in the region.
” It now behoves on the president of federal Republic of Nigeria to uphold the rule of law to immediately inaugurate the substantive board and not give room for a vacuum since the substantive board had already been screened and confirm.
“The 21st CYNDAC as critical stakeholders for the desired peace and development of the region therefore call on Mr President to match his promised words with action by creating an enabling environment for the peace and development of the region.
” By inaugurating the substantive board that was screened and confirm with men of impeccable characters and integrity will truly put board members on their toes to deliver on a new template for the much awaited development.
“The 21st century youths of Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience reiterate the inauguration of the screened and senate confirmed board , to douse the current agitations and restiveness that has been pervasive in the region these past years and rekindle the hope and aspirations of the Niger Delta people. It will also prove the seriousness of the federal government towards ameliorating the plight of the long – suffering people of the region to give them a sense of belonging. “
