Two people suspected of having Ebola in Adamawa State have tested negative after two rounds of laboratory testing, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has announced.
Director-General Dr Jide Idris disclosed this in a statement on Saturday night. He said Nigeria currently has no confirmed Ebola case, as the index patient has been evacuated to Switzerland for further treatment after her condition improved.
According to Idris, the two individuals were isolated in Yola after presenting symptoms suggestive of Ebola Virus Disease. The Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre received the report in the early hours of October 30, which led to investigations and the activation of public health measures.
The NCDC is working with the state’s Ministry of Health and Human Services to investigate the cases and provide technical support. Idris commended the Commissioner for Health and his team for their proactive response, stressing that Adamawa has no laboratory-confirmed case. The index case earlier confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory remains the country’s only one.
Idris urged Nigerians to remain calm, avoid sharing unverified information and rely on official channels for updates.
Anyone with fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly after a possible exposure, should seek immediate medical attention and tell health workers about any travel or contact history.
The agency also warned against self-medication, noting that Ebola requires prompt identification, proper clinical management and effective infection prevention and control.
Idris said the NCDC, the Adamawa State Government and other stakeholders will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as verified information becomes available.
