The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Aminu Maida, has charged staff to deliver efficient, transparent and responsive service to stakeholders in the telecoms industry.
He gave the charge at the NCC Head Office in Abuja during an address to mark the 2026 Customer Service Week, themed “Going the Extra Mile.”
Maida said service is central to the Commission’s mandate. Every policy, decision and regulatory intervention, he said, must ultimately improve consumers’ experience and support the development of Nigeria’s communications sector.
“Going the Extra Mile has a practical meaning in our daily work. It means listening carefully, responding promptly, explaining our decisions clearly, and following through on commitments,” he said.
Judgment, empathy, professionalism
He explained that technology and systems help meet public expectations in an increasingly digital environment, but judgment, empathy and professionalism give services their true value.
Maida commended staff in all departments for their daily contributions, whether in responding to consumer complaints, engaging licensees, supporting regulatory processes or providing internal services. He said their quiet work has far-reaching impact.
He also stressed the importance of internal service delivery, noting that the quality of service staff render to one another directly affects the quality of service the public receives.
Stakeholder feedback
The NCC chief acknowledged consumers, industry partners and other stakeholders, saying their feedback remains critical in identifying the Commission’s strengths and the areas that need improvement.
He urged staff to use the celebration to reflect on their daily tasks and identify where to improve, whether in response time, difficult processes or recurring complaints that require lasting solutions.
“Let us continue to treat every stakeholder with courtesy and respect, uphold the highest standards of integrity, and take ownership of our responsibilities. These everyday actions build trust in the Commission and strengthen confidence in our work,” he said.
Maida wished staff a happy Customer Service Week 2026 and urged them to sustain the spirit of service excellence beyond the celebration.
