Senior Pastor of Message Point Assembly, Apostle Dr. Bassey Udosen, has warned of possible bloodshed in the 2027 general elections urging Nigerians to reject vote-buying and defend their votes.
Udosen spoke in Calabar in an interview to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
He said despite economic hardship, insecurity, killings, kidnapping and banditry, Nigerians still have reasons to thank God for life.
“As much as there is life, we cannot stop telling God thank you. Irrespective of the economy, the killings, kidnapping, banditry and all the things happening, we have to celebrate what God is doing,” he said.
The cleric, however, said he foresees violence in the 2027 polls if prayers and preventive measures are not taken.
“I am seeing serious bloodshed that is going to take place in Nigeria. I see bloodshed within the states, but I want to pray that God Almighty, in His infinite mercy, will give His children peace,” he said.
He called on churches and Christian leaders to intensify prayers for the nation’s security and for credible leadership.
Udosen urged Nigerians not to stay away from the 2027 elections out of disillusionment or poverty, saying the most important task is not just to vote but to stay and protect their votes.
“Vote and stay there to protect your vote. Do not vote and leave and go back home. If it is going to take you the whole day, that whole day is worth sacrificing for. Spend that time, defend your vote and choose wisely,” he said.
He condemned vote-trading for food and money, warning that temporary inducements could mortgage the future.
“How many cups of rice will you continue collecting? Some of you will collect 10 cups of rice and sell your birthright,” he said.
Udosen said every generation must make sacrifices for the next urging voters to be guided by conscience, character and competence of candidates.
On presidential candidates, he said as a clergyman he would not endorse anyone, but would pray for all and for the emergence of a leader who can move the country forward.
He urged Nigerians to approach 2027 with vigilance, courage and responsibility.
