Communities in Bakassi local government area are set to have electricity restored after more than 10 years without power, following a comprehensive assessment of power infrastructure by engineers from the Cross River State Electrification Agency.
Led by Bakassi Mainland leader, AIG Chief Enene Okon, Rtd., the team toured communities across the 10 wards of the LGA to inspect existing transformers and determine what repairs and replacements are needed.
The engineers identified transformers that require repairs and others that need complete replacement.
The exercise, according to officials, provided a detailed assessment of the state of electricity infrastructure and the scope of work required in each community.
Speaking during the tour, Chief Okon commended Governor Bassey Edet Otu for the administration’s commitment to the development of Bakassi.
He cited ongoing efforts to restore electricity, improve peace and security, and advance the Bakassi Deep Seaport project as key interventions for the area.
He described the power assessment as a significant step toward addressing a longstanding challenge, noting that the progress was being recorded despite opposition from some quarters in the communities.
The inspection drew excitement from residents, with young men accompanying the team from one community to another.
Residents expressed optimism that the assessment would lead to concrete action and the eventual restoration of power.
Okon also urged the people to remain steadfast in their support for the APC and to work toward a 5/5 victory for the party in Bakassi.
For communities that have endured years of darkness, the exercise has rekindled hope that the long wait for electricity may soon be over.
