…Mother, 61, named as alleged instigator, declared wanted

The Cross River Police Command has arrested a 41-year-old man, Bassey Ekpo, in connection with the alleged arson of a residence at 8 Miles, Calabar.
According to a statement issued by the Command PRO, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the incident was reported at the Ikpa Omin Police Division by the occupant of the house, Ekemini Stephen.
Stephen told police that he was in church when a neighbour called to inform him that his house was on fire.
Police said neighbours assisted in apprehending the suspect before handing him over to officers at the station
.
During preliminary questioning, Ekpo allegedly told investigators that he acted on the instruction of his 61-year-old mother, who is now at large.
The police named her as the alleged instigator and said efforts are ongoing to arrest her.
Operatives who visited the scene documented evidence and took photographs.
The Command said investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident and the roles of all persons involved.
The statement also assured members of the public that “anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.”
