The Cross River Police Command has arrested one suspect and launched a manhunt for others in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in Calabar.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the case was reported on September 9, 2026, at the Ikpa Omin Police Division.
The report alleged that the victim was forcibly taken to a residence in the 8 Miles area on September 4, 2026, where she was sexually assaulted by two suspects and held against her will for about three days.
Police operatives from the division arrested Felix Solomon, who is currently assisting investigators with information.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly involved.
The Command said it has activated child-protection procedures to safeguard the survivor’s welfare, privacy and dignity, maintaining that her identity and other identifying details will not be released to prevent further trauma and stigmatization.
Commissioner of Police, CP Geoffrey Ordue, has directed that the investigation be carried out professionally and thoroughly in line with the law.
He assured that anyone found culpable will face prosecution and the full weight of the law upon conviction.
The police also warned against all forms of sexual violence against children, urging parents, guardians and members of the public to report suspected cases promptly to the police or relevant child-protection authorities.
The Command further cautioned against “trial by media,” noting that all suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
