The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed profound sadness over the death of prominent Niger State political figure, community leader and philanthropist, Alhaji Ibrahim Wali, the Garkuwan Kontagora.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, the Minister described the late Wali as a close associate, trusted friend and distinguished son of Niger State whose life was defined by generosity, loyalty and an unwavering commitment to the welfare and development of his people.
Idris said the death of Wali was not only a personal loss to him but also a significant loss to the people of Kontagora Emirate and Niger State, given the deceased’s longstanding contributions to his community.
“I have received with profound sadness the news of the passing of my dear friend and brother, Alhaji Ibrahim Wali, the Garkuwan Kontagora. His death is a deeply personal loss to me and a painful one for the people of Kontagora Emirate and Niger State,” the Minister said.
The Minister highlighted the deceased’s years of service to his community, noting that Wali used his influence, resources and position to support individuals and promote initiatives aimed at improving the lives of members of his community.
According to Idris, the late Garkuwan Kontagora exemplified community leadership through his philanthropic activities, particularly his support for education, empowerment initiatives and vulnerable members of society.
“Alhaji Ibrahim Wali was a man of the people in the truest sense. He understood that privilege and influence carried a responsibility to uplift others,” Idris said.
The Minister noted that Wali’s commitment to the welfare of his people extended beyond personal philanthropy, as he remained actively concerned about the broader development of Kontagora Emirate and Niger State.
He also paid tribute to the deceased’s role as the Garkuwan Kontagora, saying he discharged his traditional responsibilities with dignity and devotion while remaining closely connected to the aspirations and concerns of the people.
“As Garkuwan Kontagora, he carried his traditional responsibility with dignity and devotion. He remained deeply connected to the aspirations of the people and was a respected voice on matters affecting Kontagora Emirate and Niger State,” the Minister stated.
Reflecting on their personal relationship, Idris said he would particularly miss Wali’s friendship, counsel and warmth, as well as his ability to foster relationships among people from different backgrounds and segments of society.
“I will personally miss his friendship, his counsel, his warmth and his remarkable ability to build bridges across different segments of society,” Idris said.
He described the deceased as a dependable friend and patriot who was genuinely committed to the advancement of his people, stressing that his contributions would remain significant to those who benefited from his generosity and community service.
“We have lost a dependable friend and a patriot who genuinely desired the progress of his people,” the Minister added.
Idris extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora and the entire Kontagora Emirate, as well as the government and people of Niger State.
He prayed for the repose of Wali’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds with Aljannatul Firdaus and grant his family, friends, associates and all those affected by the loss the fortitude to bear his passing.
