The Federal Government has resumed the evacuation of Nigerian nationals from South Africa, with 271 returnees expected to arrive in Lagos on Tuesday morning aboard an Air Peace flight.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the evacuation exercise will recommence with an Air Peace aircraft departing Nigeria at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026.

The aircraft is expected to arrive in South Africa at approximately 9:00 p.m. local time, where it will pick up stranded Nigerian citizens who have indicated their readiness to return home.

The return flight is scheduled to depart South Africa at 12:00 midnight and is expected to land at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday morning with 271 evacuees on board.

The latest evacuation underscores the Federal Government’s continued commitment to the welfare and protection of Nigerians abroad, particularly in times of distress or emergency.

The operation is being coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with relevant government agencies and Air Peace, Nigeria’s foremost indigenous airline.

Authorities are expected to receive the returnees upon arrival in Lagos, where necessary post-arrival procedures and support arrangements will be undertaken.
