THE AMINU RINGIM FACTOR—WHY STAKEHOLDERS ARE PUSHING TRUSTED AND LOYAL NAKUDU ALLY AMINU IBRAHIM RINGIM AS ADC’S MOST STRATEGIC DEPUTY GOVERNORSHIP ASSET FOR ELECTORAL VICTORY
By MATI ALI
As permutations ahead of the 2027 governorship election gather pace, the conversation within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is increasingly shifting to who will emerge as a strategic running mate with the capacity to help secure electoral victory.
At the centre of that equation is Mallam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, a veteran politician whose political capital, institutional memory, and cross-factional appeal have made him a recurring feature in discussions surrounding Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu’s prospective running mate.
Ringim’s credentials are difficult to ignore. A former governorship candidate, former Member of the House of Representatives, former Commissioner for Agriculture, and former Chief of Staff, he brings decades of legislative, administrative, and political experience to the table. His career, spanning nearly five decades, places him among Jigawa State’s most enduring political actors.
More importantly, Ringim emerged as a key coalition-builder during the ADC governorship primaries, helping consolidate support among critical stakeholders and returnees to the party. Political insiders credit his mobilisation efforts and consensus-building skills as part of the factors that strengthened Senator Sabo Nakudu’s emergence as the ADC governorship candidate.
Beyond experience, Ringim commands significant grassroots goodwill. Having contested the governorship under the PDP and later the NNPP, he built extensive political networks across the state, earning a reputation as one of Jigawa’s most formidable opposition figures.
Supporters also point to his decision to shelve his personal ambition and rally behind Senator Nakudu as evidence of political maturity, party loyalty, and commitment to collective success—qualities considered vital for a deputy governorship candidate.
For many ADC stakeholders, the argument is strategic rather than sentimental. Ringim offers political experience, administrative competence, grassroots reach, stakeholder acceptability, and proven capacity for party cohesion.
As consultations ahead of 2027 continue, the ADC faces the challenge of assembling a ticket capable of uniting diverse political interests while expanding the party’s electoral footprint. In that calculation, many observers believe Mallam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim remains one of the strongest and most credible options available.
Whether the party eventually settles on him or not, his influence on the emerging opposition architecture in Jigawa State is already unmistakable.
