Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured that the ongoing reconstruction of the State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt will be completed and ready for use by the first quarter of 2027.

The governor gave the assurance on Monday after conducting an inspection tour of the expansive secretariat complex located in the Old Government Residential Area (GRA) of Port Harcourt.

Fubara explained that the visit was aimed at assessing the level of progress achieved on the project, particularly the work being carried out inside the buildings, having previously observed the external transformation of the complex.

“We just did a tour of the renovation of the Secretariat. I have been seeing the outer part of it wearing a new look, but I wanted to really confirm how much job is going on, most importantly, the inside and that is what I just went to inspect myself,” the governor said.

Expressing satisfaction with the pace of work, Fubara stated that the project remained on course for completion within the projected timeline.

“I think that with the progress of work here, by the grace of God, I believe that by the first quarter of next year, it will be handed over to the government. Like I did promise, every job that we are handling, we will ensure that we put them to completion,” he added.

The Rivers State Secretariat Complex is one of the state’s most significant public infrastructure assets. Constructed in the 1970s following the creation of Rivers State in 1967, the complex serves as the administrative hub of the state government.

The facility comprises several high-rise structures, including the iconic 17-storey Point Block, the 10-storey Podium Block, and three additional seven-storey buildings known as Blocks A, B and C.

The ongoing reconstruction project is designed to comprehensively modernize the ageing facility and align it with contemporary administrative and workplace standards. The scope of work includes structural rehabilitation of the buildings, redesign of office spaces, installation of modern facilities, and the upgrade of critical utilities and support infrastructure.

According to the state government, the project will provide a more conducive and efficient working environment for civil servants while incorporating technology-driven systems to improve service delivery and administrative operations.

The reconstruction of the secretariat forms part of the Fubara administration’s broader infrastructure renewal programme aimed at rehabilitating key public assets across the state and improving the efficiency of government institutions.

the governor was accompanied by officials involved in the project, including the Managing Director of Al-Manson Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Wael, whose company is handling aspects of the reconstruction work.

The completion of the project is expected to restore the secretariat complex to full functionality and provide modern office accommodation for government ministries, departments and agencies operating in the state.
