NICASA holds sensitisation campaign against crime, lawful conduct in South Africa

The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) has the importance of lawful conduct, community responsibility, and the need to protect the integrity of the Nigerian identity abroad.
This is as NICASA carried out a Crime Awareness campaign to sensitise Nigerians in the Nelson Mandela country.
The campaign is coming on the heels of recent protest against Nigerians and other foreign nationals, especially Africans by locals who are demanding that the foreigners vacate their country.
The campaign which was done through Webinar has the theme: “Living Lawfully in South Africa.”
The webinar, according to NICASA President, Rev. Frank Onyekwelu served as an important platform to educate, enlighten, and empower Nigerians residing in South Africa.
Onyekwelu noted that it is critical for Nigerians in South Africa to uphold values that promote peace, dignity, and respect for the laws of the host country.
He said: “As Nigerians continue to contribute positively to the economic, academic, religious, and social development of South Africa, it remains critical that we uphold values that promote peace, dignity, and respect for the laws of our host country.”
The session listed 12 key principles that Nigerians in South Acrica must follow to ensure lawful living and protecting the Nigerian image.
The list includes: :Respect and obey the laws of South Africa at all times; Ensure proper documentation and maintain valid immigration status, Avoid involvement in criminal activities, fraud, drugs, cybercrime, and violence.
Orhets includes: “Conduct business legally and comply with tax and regulatory requirements.
“Respect cultural differences and promote peaceful coexistence with local communities.
“Report crimes and suspicious activities through appropriate legal channels.
“Avoid spreading misinformation, hate speech, or incitement on social media.
“Engage actively in community development and positive nation-building initiatives.
“Mentor young Nigerians toward discipline, education, and productive engagement.
“Protect the dignity and reputation of Nigeria through exemplary conduct and responsible leadership.
“Strive to renew our international Passport timely to avoid delays or difficulties in renewing our residence status in South Africa
“⁠To always remember that our diplomatic missions are here for us and will continue to advocate for our wellbeing, welfare and protection of our citizens.”
NICASA reiterates its commitment to promoting lawful integration, peaceful coexistence, and the welfare of Nigerians across South Africa.
