The 2023 Governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Gombe State, Ahmed Khamisu Mailantarki, has picked the Governorship interest form of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Mailantarki, a former member of the House of Representatives for Funakaye/Gombe/Kwami Federal Constituency (2011-2015), declared his intention to run for the Governorship position again when he presented his letter of intent to the leadership of the party at the PDP Secretariat.

Represented by his Director-General on campaign, Adamu Bappa, he described Mailantarki as a loyal and disciplined party man who has remained committed to party structures from the ward to national level.

According to Adamu Bappa, During the time of Mailantarki in the National Assembly, he served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on FCT Area Councils and was a member of several committees.

After contesting and failing the 2023 election under the NNPP, Mailantarki joined the PDP in November 2024, and described the party as the strongest opposition platform to challenge the APC in the State.

Bappa said, Mailantarki’s Governorship ambition has inspired several legislative hopefuls, as he arrived with about 20 House of Assembly aspirants and supporters seeking various elective positions under the PDP.

Receiving the form on behalf of the party, the Gombe State PDP leadership described Mailantarki’s declaration as evidence of growing confidence in the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Gombe State Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Dan Azumi, while receiving the aspirant, said the influx of aspirants into the party showed that the opposition was regaining momentum in the state.

He commended Mailantarki for submitting his letter early and assured all aspirants of fairness and transparency in the party’s nomination process.

Dan Azumi also announced an extension of the deadline for the submission of expression of interest from May 3rd to May 9th, and urged all interested aspirants to take advantage of the extension.

Adamu Haruna Abubakar, the State PDP Secretary, had earlier called on stakeholders across the eleven Local Governments of the State to mobilize more aspirants to obtain and submit their forms.

He said, “The PDP will field candidates. We should not lose hope. Everyone should come out, stand firm, mobilize, and contest this election seriously.”

Adamu Haruna pointed out that the PDP’s ultimate goal is to produce a formidable candidate capable of defeating the ruling APC in the 2027 Governorship election in Gombe State.

End.
