The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), boss Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has lauded Nigerian-born basketball star E.J. Anosike following his landmark achievements in the National Basketball League (China).

In a statement released on Saturday by NiDCOM’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa described Anosike’s performance as “historic,” noting that the athlete has become the first player in the league’s history to secure all major individual and team honours.

Anosike capped a remarkable 2026 season by leading his team to the NBL Championship while also clinching the Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

His unprecedented run of accolades further includes emerging as the Regular Season Scoring Leader in 2024, Best International Player in 2025, a two-time All-Star (2025 and 2026), and the 2026 All-Star Slam Dunk Champion.

Dabiri-Erewa commended the player’s consistency, discipline, and exceptional on-court impact, emphasizing that his accomplishments underscore the resilience and excellence Nigerians continue to demonstrate across global platforms.

“Anosike’s journey is a powerful testament to hard work, focus, and determination. His record-breaking accomplishments have not only brought pride to Nigeria but have also set a new standard of excellence in international basketball,” she said.

She added that the feat represents more than personal success, describing it as a source of national pride and a symbol of the growing influence of Nigerians in global sports.

The NiDCOM boss further noted that Anosike’s rise serves as a strong source of inspiration for young Nigerians, particularly aspiring athletes, urging them to pursue their ambitions with discipline and self-belief.
