The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a public alert over the circulation of fraudulent messages, emails, and online communications falsely claiming to originate from or be linked to the Bank.

In a statement, the apex bank said the deceptive messages are designed to mislead the public, often prompting recipients to click on malicious links or disclose sensitive personal information. It noted that such communications frequently contain false claims relating to the Bank’s leadership, licensing activities, and policy decisions, with the ultimate aim of compromising users’ accounts.

The CBN reiterated that its official website remains www.cbn.gov.ng and urged members of the public to exercise caution when engaging with online content purportedly associated with the institution.

It advised the public to avoid clicking on suspicious links or sharing personal details on unverified platforms, and to confirm the authenticity of any communication through its official website or credible media channels.

The Bank also encouraged individuals to report any suspected fraudulent websites, emails, or messages to law enforcement authorities for prompt investigation.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting the financial system, the CBN stated that it continues to enhance its cybersecurity infrastructure in collaboration with relevant agencies to guard against digital fraud and safeguard the public.
