No fewer than 25 ambassador-designates are expected to resume at their duty post as from the end of April.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, who disclosed this on Friday said their induction programme has been scheduled for 26-29 April, 2026.

Ebienfa said the government has received 25 agreements from countries where ambassador-designates have been sent.

Briefing journalists on current developments in the ministry and Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements, Ebienfa said the government has received letters of agreement from the 25 host countries.

He said “We have received more than 25 agreements from countries where ambassador-designates have been sent, and plans have been concluded for a three-day induction programme from the 27th to the 29th of this month, noting that deployment would begin immediately after the exercise.”
He explained that the agreements, known in diplomatic terms as agrémo, represent formal consent from receiving countries after conducting due diligence on Nigeria’s nominees.
According to him, “Once the agrément is granted, the ministry proceeds with induction, where ambassadors and, where applicable, their spouses are exposed to the principles of diplomacy, conduct in host countries, and the expectations of the President.”
Ebienfa added that following the induction, ambassadors who have secured approval would proceed to their respective postings, although some missions may still await final clearances.
