The Niger State Government says it is finalising a comprehensive framework for the reactivation and institutionalisation of the Patients Information and Complaints Office (PICO) across public health facilities in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Multala Muhammad Bagana, disclosed this during a press briefing to mark the 2026 World Health Day, held at the conference hall of the Ministry in Minna. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Together for Health: Stand with Science.”

Dr. Bagana noted that the initiative, being implemented in close collaboration with the Hospital Management Board and other relevant agencies and MDAs, is designed to provide a structured, accessible and transparent platform for patients and their families to seek information, lodge complaints and contribute to improvements in healthcare delivery.

He explained that the PICO framework would enhance responsiveness and public trust, while also institutionalising continuous quality improvement, strengthening professional accountability, and ensuring that patient feedback directly informs healthcare planning, policy and service delivery across the state.

The commissioner disclosed that the reform priorities would focus on transforming the image and culture of the Ministry of Health, revamping the health sector, rebuilding financial credibility and trust, institutional transformation, providing visionary leadership in the primary healthcare agenda, and promoting excellence.

Dr. Bagana further stated that Niger State, in collaboration with its partners, joined the global community to commemorate World Health Day 2026 not only to celebrate progress in healthcare, but also to confront existing challenges, renew commitments and redefine the future of healthcare delivery in the state.

“Today, we join the global community to commemorate World Health Day 2026, a day set aside not only to celebrate progress in health, but also to confront our realities, renew our commitments, and define the future of healthcare for our people,” he said.
He added that World Health Day is not merely symbolic, but a moment of truth, responsibility and renewed commitment.

Dr. Bagana also appreciated development partners for their continued support to the state government.

Activities marking the 2026 World Health Day celebration included a road walk by ministry officials and development partners. The walk commenced from Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta Primary Health Care Centre, passed through Government House, Obasanjo Complex and General Hospital, and terminated at the Old Secretariat Complex.

There was also free medical screening for civil servants and members of the public at designated centres across Minna, the state capital.
