The President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Emeka Obegolu, has called for stronger commitment to ongoing tax reforms as a pathway to economic growth.

In a statement issued to commemorate the Easter celebration, Obegolu urged entrepreneurs, investors, and corporate leaders to align with Nigeria’s evolving tax framework, stressing that compliance would play a pivotal role in strengthening the country’s economic foundations.

He noted that the new tax reforms are designed to address long-standing challenges within the fiscal environment, including multiple taxation, lack of transparency, and regulatory inefficiencies that have historically constrained business operations.

“Adherence to these reforms will be to the benefit of our dear country,” he stated, expressing optimism that a harmonised tax structure would enhance investor confidence and improve the overall ease of doing business.

The ACCI President acknowledged that businesses across sectors continue to grapple with economic headwinds such as infrastructural deficits, policy uncertainties, and rising operational costs.

Despite these challenges, he described Easter as a period that embodies renewal, resilience, and opportunity values he said are critical for navigating the current economic landscape.

According to him, the significance of Easter goes beyond its religious context, offering lessons in perseverance and unity that are equally applicable to economic recovery and growth.

“Easter represents new beginnings. It reminds us of the power of perseverance and the importance of unity in the face of adversity. As business leaders, we must continue to innovate, collaborate, and advocate for policies that support a sustainable and inclusive economy,” Obegolu added.

He further underscored the importance of sustained collaboration between the public and private sectors, noting that the success of the tax reforms and broader economic policies depends largely on effective engagement, clear communication, and coordinated implementation.

Obegolu also highlighted the need for targeted capacity-building initiatives, particularly for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), to ensure they are adequately informed and equipped to comply with the new tax regime.

He stressed that improving awareness and technical understanding among SMEs would be critical to achieving widespread adoption and maximising the benefits of the reforms.

Reaffirming ACCI’s role as a leading voice of the organised private sector in Abuja, he pledged the Chamber’s continued advocacy for policies that promote a more enabling business environment, drive investment, and support sustainable economic development.
