Former member of the House of Representatives, Hon TeeJay Yusuf has decried the attempt to politicise security matters in the country.
Yusuf, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Board of Trustees, who represented Kabba/unu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the National Assembly between 2011-2023 in a statement on Monday said the turn of events of the aftermath of Jilli airstrike is worrisome.
Yusuf stated: “It’s honestly disturbing how we’ve turned insecurity in Nigeria into a political game.
“Take the recent Air Force airstrike in Borno for example. A known terrorist enclave was targeted, yet the dominant narrative on social media quickly shifted to claims that a market was hit—despite reports that the location had long been abandoned and taken over by insurgents.
“Yes, accountability matters. Yes, every civilian life is important. But pushing unverified or misleading information just to score political points only fuels confusion and weakens public trust.
“We can’t claim to want security and stability while constantly discrediting efforts on the ground without facts.
“Nigeria deserves better—more honesty, more responsibility, and less propaganda. Let’s do better as citizens.”
