Amidst political alignments and scheming, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect.
The news of the dissolution which was shared by the Director General, Press affairs, Government House Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli, on his official Facebook page, marks a significant development in the political landscape of the State.
However, briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Abubakar Ibrahim Njodi, confirmed the development adding that the dissolution was carried out to enable those interested in contesting political offices to pursue their ambitions.
According to Professor Njodi, the Council meeting took a postmortem of activities of governance for the past two and a half years of the administration during the extraordinary session and gave itself a pass mark with excellent results.
Conveying the Governor’s message to Journalists, Professor Njodi said, the Governor therefore directed that the Council be dissolved with effect from today (09/04/2026), but that handing over and taking over from the ministries will be not later than the 10th of April 2026.
Professor Njodi explained Governor Inuwa’s action to mean that, “both people in the political sphere as well as Government appointees, public servants, civil servants, who may wish to contest, are free to resign their positions not later than the 10th of April 2026.
“Consequently, all commissioners are hereby directed to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to the Permanent Secretaries in their ministries by Friday, 10 April 2026.
“Furthermore, His Excellency Governor Inuwa Yahaya has directed that all Government appointees, including political office holders and aides, who intend to contest for any elective position in the upcoming 2027 general elections, should resign their current appointments on or before Friday, April 10, 2026.
“His Excellency expressed his profound gratitude and deep appreciation to all outgoing members of the State Executive Council and other affected appointees for their unwavering dedication, commitment, loyalty, and service in the collective effort to deliver this administration’s agenda for sustainable development, good governance, and the upliftment of the good people of Gombe State.
“The Governor remains grateful for their individual and collective contributions to the successes recorded across various sectors and wishes them the very best in all their future endeavors”, Professor Njodi explained.
Meanwhile, Governor Inuwa Yahaya is expected to reconstitute the Council in the coming days to maintain administrative continuity and sustain ongoing Government programmes.
