Chairman of the Gombe State chapter of the Aquatic Sports Association, Tijjani Jaafar, has formerly inaugurated the patrons and Board members of the association.
The inauguration which took place at the conference hall of the Gombe State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development also witnessed the formation of twelve (12) committees to ensure smooth operations of the association as its various sporting events picks up.
This development marks the commencement of Aquatic related sports events as the Chairman unfolded a lineup of different sporting activities which includes different strokes of swimming, diving, water polo among others.
Jaafar, commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for creating an enabling environment for sporting activities to thrive in the State.
He called for support of Government and all stakeholders in ensuring that sporting events of the association as well as other activities doesn’t suffer by providing sponsorship and a sustainable reward system for athletes.
He assured that Gombe aquatic athletes are ready to feature in upcoming National Aquatic Sporting events, including the forthcoming National Sports Festival, if a more concerted efforts are made towards developing and encouraging the abundant talents in the State.
Earlier in his office before the inauguration, the Gombe State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Adamu Inuwa Ibrahim, gave his blessings to the association.
While wishing them well, the Commissioner prayed that the association will be strong and promote the good image of Gombe State while promising them an open door in his office.
One of the Patrons of the association, Shehu Awak, while praying that she association delivers in its mandate, solicited for support particularly in finance to ensure smooth operations of the association’s programmes.
The twelve Committees inaugurated and their terms of reference given were as follows: Technical Organization and Meeting; Finance, Budget and Sponsorship; School Sports and Higher Institution; as well as Aquatic Integrity Unit, Disciplinary and Ethics.
Other committees also inaugurated were, Media and Publicity; Live Guard Water Safety and Drowning; Facilities and Swimming Pool Monitoring; Security; Athletes Discovery and Sustainable; Open Water Swimming, Polo and Diving; Medical and Doping Control; and Aquatic Welfare Committee.
