Women leaders of the Labour Party (LP) across Nigeria’s South-East have passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of Alex Otti and Nenadi Usman, while calling for intensified mobilisation ahead of the party’s e-registration exercise, congresses, and national convention.

The endorsement formed part of resolutions reached at a strategic virtual meeting held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, convened by the Deputy National Woman Leader (South-East), Ijeoma Chukwu, in collaboration with the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinelo Ofoche.

The meeting brought together key women stakeholders of the party from the five South-East states—Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo—to deliberate on strengthening internal structures, boosting women’s participation, and consolidating party unity in the zone.

The women leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing female participation in politics, stressing that inclusive leadership is central to democratic growth and equity.

They resolved to scale up grassroots mobilisation and advocacy campaigns to encourage more women to engage actively in party processes and leadership roles.

According to the communiqué, increasing women’s visibility in decision-making structures remains critical to achieving sustainable political development within the party and beyond.

A major highlight of the meeting was the unanimous decision to mobilise women across the South-East to participate fully in the Labour Party’s ongoing electronic membership registration exercise.

The leaders described the e-registration process as a foundational step toward strengthening the party’s database and internal democracy.

They also urged women to prepare actively for the forthcoming ward, local government, and state congresses, noting that these exercises would shape the party’s leadership architecture ahead of the national convention.

The forum passed a vote of confidence on several party leaders, citing their contributions to the stability and growth of the Labour Party.

Governor Alex Otti and his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, were commended for what the group described as “purposeful and visionary governance” in Abia State, which they said reflects the transformative potential of Labour Party leadership.

The women praised Nenadi Usman for her “courageous and prudent” stewardship of the party at the national level, crediting her with fostering unity and repositioning the party for greater national relevance.

Also receiving commendation were Darlington Nwokocha for his dedication to party ideals, and Chinelo Ofoche for strengthening organisational structures nationwide.

The meeting further recognised Ijeoma Chukwu and other women leaders across the zone for their commitment to party unity and mobilisation efforts.

Participants pledged to continue working collaboratively to deepen cohesion within the party and expand its grassroots support base in the South-East. They emphasised that unity among stakeholders remains essential for the Labour Party to sustain its momentum and electoral competitiveness.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by the women leaders to champion policies and initiatives that amplify the voices of women within the party and Nigeria’s broader democratic landscape.
