A Gombe-based environmental NGO, Jewel Environmental Initiative (JEI) has commended President Bola Tinubu over the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour (REHCCAT).
JEI fully aligns with such good initiative and herewith back the climate change movement by President Tinubu aimed at inspiring climate action through innovation, education, and sustainable development.
With the impact of climate change in Nigeria, particularly Northern Nigeria, this initiative is not only timely but desperately needed to build a climate-resilient and sustainable future for all Nigerians, according to Ismail Bima, CEO of JEI.
In e Press statement sent to our Correspondent, Ismail said the pace at which climate change is affecting livelihoods, environment, couple with the insufficient information around climate change issues especially in rural communities, such campaign would help drive a new culture of awareness and partnership that will build resilience and enhance solutions towards protecting livelihoods, the environment and humanity.
“We, in JEI, herewith urged Mr President and the Ministry of Environment to drive this initiative with commitment to the grassroots, collaborate with key stakeholders at the State and Local Government levels, to achieve maximum results.
“We must as a nation invest in a solution-driven approach to climate change issues and make more practical efforts to reverse the impact of climate change so that farmers and other key stakeholders can heave a sigh of relief.
“We commend President Tinubu and the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, for this initiative, as we urge all stakeholders to lend their support.
“The impact of climate change does not isolate anyone; so this is our moment to work together, consolidate ongoing efforts and build more grassroots resilience,” the statement reads.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday in Abuja inaugurated the Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour (REHCCAT), a national initiative aimed at promoting climate resilience and sustainable development across Nigeria.
Speaking at the State House Conference, Tinubu urged Governors, organised private sector actors, and other stakeholders to lead Nigeria’s climate transition, transforming awareness into practical action at all levels.
Represented by the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, the President said climate change was not only a risk but also an opportunity for innovation, growth, and national development.
End.
