The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended warm felicitations to the Government and people of the State of Kuwait on the occasion of their National Day, celebrated annually on February 25.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria, Nigeria congratulated Kuwait on marking a historic milestone that commemorates the ascension of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah to the throne in 1950 a defining moment widely regarded as the foundation of Kuwait’s modern statehood and eventual independence on June 19, 1961.
The statement noted that the leadership and vision demonstrated during that formative period laid the groundwork for Kuwait’s institutional consolidation and national development, shaping its emergence as a stable and progressive state within the Gulf region.
Nigeria commended Kuwait for its meaningful contributions to regional peace, economic cooperation, humanitarian assistance, and multilateral diplomacy over the decades.
It acknowledged Kuwait’s constructive engagement within the international community and its sustained commitment to sustainable development and global partnerships.
Highlighting bilateral relations, the Federal Government described Nigeria and Kuwait as enjoying cordial and mutually beneficial ties anchored on shared principles of sovereignty, mutual respect, and constructive engagement.
Both countries, according to the statement, have collaborated across bilateral and multilateral platforms, particularly within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations system, as well as other international institutions.
Nigeria further expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s development cooperation initiatives and humanitarian support, while noting the steady growth in economic and diplomatic exchanges between the two nations.
“As Kuwait marks this important national milestone, Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties, expanding economic collaboration, and deepening people-to-people exchanges for the mutual benefit of both countries,” the statement read.
The Government and people of Nigeria also conveyed their best wishes to His Highness the Amir, the Government, and the people of Kuwait for continued peace, prosperity, and progress.
