Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, on Thursday observed the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress at Mafa Local Government Area of the State.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also on ground to monitor the exercise.
The congress, conducted simultaneously across the 312 wards of the state, saw party members converge to elect new ward executives through a consensus arrangement aimed at strengthening unity within the party.

Governor Zulum, accompanied by APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, members of the National Assembly, state lawmakers and senior party stakeholders, described the process as peaceful and well-coordinated.

Addressing party members after the exercise, the governor expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of the congress, noting the absence of disputes or tension.

“I am pleased with the smooth and transparent manner in which the congress was conducted. The peaceful atmosphere reflects the maturity and unity within our party,” he said.

Zulum commended the APC national leadership for constituting what he termed a credible and diligent committee to oversee the process. He also praised party stakeholders in Mafa for embracing consensus as a means of promoting harmony.

The ward congress committee in Mafa was chaired by Borno State Commissioner for Health, Professor Baba Mallam Gana, while INEC’s Mafa Local Government Electoral Officer, Salihu Muktari, was present to monitor proceedings.

Other party leaders in attendance included the APC State Chairman, Bello Ayuba; Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan; Senator Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai; Hon. Mohammed Jaha (Babawo); and the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly.

The governor urged the newly elected ward executives to view their emergence as a responsibility to deepen grassroots mobilisation and strengthen party structures.

“You are closest to the people at the ward level. Your role is critical in consolidating our achievements and ensuring greater participation of members,” Zulum said.

Members of the APC Ward and Local Government Congress Screening Committees and Appeal Committees, led by Prophet Jones Erue, were also present to observe the exercise.

Party officials said the peaceful conduct of the congress in Borno underscores the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and organisational stability ahead of future political activities.
