The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, on Sunday visited the Singer Market in Kano State to commiserate with traders who lost goods worth billions of naira to a devastating fire outbreak.
Yilwatda, who led a delegation to Kano in a post accompanied with pictures shared by X.com user #Imran Muhammed toured the gutted market and interacted with affected victims, assessing the level of destruction.
The APC chairman expressed deep sympathy to the traders on behalf of the party over the inferno, which razed numerous shops from Saturday night.
The fire started late Saturday evening and rapidly spread through sections of the popular commercial centre, destroying merchandise and property before it was eventually extinguished.
The visit followed an earlier condolence message by President Bola Tinubu, who had expressed shock over the incident and dispatched the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, to visit the scene as his personal representative.
Shettima had conveyed the Federal Government’s sympathy to the victims and assured them of support in their recovery efforts.
Hundreds of traders have been left devastated by the losses, with many counting the cost of the disaster that wiped out their investments.
The cause of the fire has not been officially determined, though preliminary investigations are ongoing.
Affected traders appealed to the Federal and Kano State governments for urgent intervention to cushion the impact of their losses and enable them to resume business.
Singer Market is one of the major trading hubs in Kano, the commercial nerve centre of Northern Nigeria.
