Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has led a high-powered delegation to Malaysia to deepen educational, cultural and investment ties with the Southeast Asian nation.
According to Ismaila Uba Misilli, the Director General, Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, the visit was in furtherance of the State Government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation for sustainable development
.
The visit comes ahead of the conferment of an Honorary Doctorate Degree on the Governor by Lincoln University College, Malaysia.
A key feature of the event was the Governor’s engagement and inspiring interaction with Gombe State students currently studying in Malaysia where he commended them for their commitment to academic excellence, urging them to remain focused, disciplined and steadfast in the pursuit of their educational and professional goals.
He further encouraged them to continue to be good ambassadors and keep projecting a positive image of Gombe State and Nigeria. In support of their academic endeavors, the Governor made a cash donation to assist the students.
Lincoln University College Malaysia, has established a campus in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, where it is providing world-class education, strengthening human capital development, and consolidating Gombe State status as a growing centre of learning and development in the North-East.
The Governor was earlier received by the Chargé d’Affaires and Acting High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Malaysia, Ambassador Sani Danlami, who welcomed the Governor and his delegation to a special luncheon.
He then briefed the High Commission on the progress recorded in the establishment of the Lincoln University campus in Gombe State, a strategic partnership between the State Government and Lincoln University College, Malaysia, aimed at expanding access to quality higher education.
Those who accompanied the Governor during the Malaysian visit were, the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo; former Nigerian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Ambassador Dr. Hajara Ibrahim Salim; the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi; a Member of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Nasiru Abdulkarim; former Commissioner for Higher Education, Batari Maji Dauda; and the Director-General, Research and Documentation, Ahmed Husaini.
