What was supposed to be a joyous moment suddenly turned sour as a fight broke out at a wedding ceremony in Yobe leading to the death of one person while four others were injured.
The incident, NewsSpecng gathered, happened in Kayari village, Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The cause of the chaos, it was also gathered, was as a result of a long standing family dispute.
According to Zagazola Makama, who quoted security sources, the deadly altercation took place around 6.30pm on January 13 at the residence of one Wakili Sumaye where members of the Manu and Ibrahim families reportedly descended into a fight.
The confrontation which began as a war of words escalated into a full blown melee with rivals allegedly wielding cutlasses and attacking one another.
Four men identified as Abdullahi Manu 30 Adamu Manu 27 Ilyasu Manu 30 and 20 year old Mohammadu Ibrahim were arrested and taken to the Damagum Divisional Police Headquarters before being rushed to the Damagum General Hospital for treatment.
Medical personnel confirmed that Abdullahi Manu died on arrival while the three others are receiving care for multiple injuries.
The Yobe Police Command which confirmed the incident said detectives had launched an investigation and were working to track down fleeing suspects believed to have played a role in the fight.
The Command appealed to residents to shun violence and embrace peaceful dispute resolution warning that conflicts involving weapons often lead to avoidable fatalities.
