Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum has begun the construction of two large-scale educational institutions in Hawul Local Government Area.
The project is part of the administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector across the state.
The governor laid the foundation for a High Islamic College in Shafa, a 48-classroom facility that will operate under the curriculum of the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS).
The college is designed to integrate formal education with Islamic studies while equipping students with digital skills, literacy, numeracy and vocational training.
Zulum said the project is part of his campaign pledge to expand access to quality education and promote a balanced learning system that blends religious knowledge with modern academic and technical skills.
In Marama town, the governor also flagged off the construction of another mega school aimed at improving educational infrastructure within the local government area.
He announced that the project would feature a two-storey building with 36 classrooms and additional facilities to support effective teaching and learning.
Addressing residents during the foundation-laying ceremony, Zulum acknowledged the shortage of teachers in the area and disclosed plans to recruit qualified educators, particularly indigenes of Marama, to ensure the smooth operation of the new school.
The Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, joined the governor during the foundation-laying exercises.
As part of the visit, Governor Zulum also inspected the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Azare, which was rehabilitated and donated by the state government to facilitate the commencement of services. He further commissioned projects executed by the Hawul Local Government Council, including a shopping complex and market stalls, to boost local commerce.
The governor was accompanied by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South), former deputy governors Usman Mamman Durkwa and Ali Abubakar Jatau, members of the National Assembly and Borno State House of Assembly, commissioners, local government chairmen and other stakeholders from Southern Borno.
