The Arewa Unity Forum takes a dive at the true purpose of the Northwest Development Commission ( NEDC), wondering if it for political reasons rather than for socio-economic development of the zone.

This was disclosed in a statement made available to the media signed by Amb. H.E. Nasiru Umar Dutsinma
Chairman of the forum highlighting the disparity in treatment between the Southwest Development Commission and the NorthWest Development Commission, pointing out that the Southwest has received significant investment, including a railway line, while the NorthWest is struggling to function.

The statement reads :’this disparity is seen as a reflection of the administration’s priorities, with the Southwest region receiving more attention and investment due to its perceived importance to the president’s political ambitions.

The Arewa Unity Forum is calling for a more equitable distribution of resources and investment in the NorthWest region, to address the socio-economic challenges facing the area.

The absence of Vice President Kashim Shettima at the launch of campaign vehicles has also raised questions about his role in the administration. Some have interpreted this as a sign that he has been sidelined or withdrawn as part of the joining tickets for President Tinubu’s second term bid.

This has fueled speculation about divisions within the administration and the president’s commitment to democratic principles and ideals.

The Arewa Unity Forum sees the Renewed Hope Agenda as a scheme to deceive the northeast zone, and believes it’s lacking in substance. They argue that the agenda is merely a political ploy to win votes, rather than a genuine attempt to address the challenges facing the region.

The forum is calling for a more inclusive and equitable approach to governance, with the NorthWest Development Commission empowered to address the socio-economic challenges facing the region, and for the administration to prioritize the welfare of the people over political ambitions.

Some potential solutions could include increased investment in infrastructure, including roads, railways, and energy, to support economic growth and development in the NorthWest region.

Empowerment of the NorthWest Development Commission to address the socio-economic challenges facing the region, including poverty, unemployment, and lack of access to basic services.

A more inclusive and participatory approach to governance, involving stakeholders from the NorthWest region in decision-making processes and ensuring that their voices are heard.

A commitment to transparency and accountability, with regular updates on progress and outcomes, to build trust and confidence in the administration.

The Arewa Unity Forum urges President Tinubu’s administration to prioritize the welfare of the people of Northern Nigeria and address the socio-economic challenges facing the region”
