Issues bordering the security and welfare of citizens took centre stage as the Cross River governor, Prince Bassey Otu, met with the 18 local government chairmen in the state.

The meeting was held at the State Executive Chambers, Governor’s office, Calabar, Monday, and attended by the deputy governor, RT. Hon Peter Odey.

At the opening ceremony before going into a close door meeting, Otu informed that items in the agenda were security, welfare of the citizenry and assessment of the various local government councils across the state in line with his People First Agenda.

“We are going into the end of the year and there is need for our citizens to feel the impact of the local government administration, not just in the centre but across the tiers of government.

“Also, the meeting is a period for self assessment to actually know how the People First governance, has impacted on the people,” the governor said.

In an interview with journalists shortly after the meeting, the Chairman of Yakurr local government area, Hon. Yiballa Inyang, affirmed that the meeting came out with key factors needed to reposition the state as crime free and protected, where everyone lives in peace as usual.

Yiballa who doubles as the Chairman, Cross River Forum of Chairmen, also said: “For security to be tackled, there must be happy moments where people are happy, so we equally improved and considered lots of measures where citizens will begin to get direct impact, life assistance and other livelihood to improve their condition.”

On the performances of the local government councils under his leadership, the Forum Chairman explained that “we are on course, we are doing well and doing a lot to improve the standard of living.”

Continuing, Yiballa argued, “we are picking up and our development flag is gearing towards putting the state in a developed map and that is what we deserve as a state especially when we have a governor that cares about the feelings of the people.”
