In appreciation to God for a successful year in office as the Mayor of Calabar Municipality, in Cross River, Apostle James Anam, Monday, organised a solemn assembly and anniversary thanksgiving.

The event which took place at the Council Secretariat, drew clergymen, past political office holders of the Municipality, Council staff, party chieftain, traditional institution as well as friends and associates.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, Anam said the gathering was in fulfillment of his earlier pledge in 2024 to return to God in thanksgiving after a year in office.

According to him, he was appreciative for the gift of life offered him, his vice, about 112 appointees and council staff, without any severe health challenges or death, adding that, the executive and the legislature in the Municipality have continuously enjoyed harmonious relationship, a feat that has been reluctant to achieve in the past.

Anam who took the second Bible reading during the solemn assembly, also announced that among numerous achievements, his administration tarred its internal roads, provided a transformer and ready to flag off by December this year, the political block housing the Chairman, Vice, Secretary and legislative Council which he remodelled in line with the People first agenda of the governor, Prince Bassey Otu.

“We are replicating what the governor is doing in Government House, Calabar and entire state. We want visitors and tourists into the state, to see what we are doing and return with good impression of our style,” Anam said.

In his sermon, Field Superintendent of The Apostolic Church, Pastor Ekpe Offiong, argued that thanksgiving remains vital as when one thanks God, such a person receives more, urging political office holders to tremendously impact on the citizenry.

Wondering why some political leaders fear accountability, Offiong who took his text from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah 43: 18,19, also frowned at those who act as psycophants and praise-singers, using the opportunity of their closeness to initiate office holders into occultic groups.

While the State secretary of APC, Pastor Patrick Okon, urged the Mayor to develop a reflective and feedback mechanism to guide his governance style, the Ndidem of the Quas, Ndidem ETA Bassey Eteta, prayed God to direct the paths of the citizenry who he affirmed, have derailed from the right way in recent times.

The event featured Bible readings, prayers, choir ministration, praise and worship including congregational hymns.
