The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Thursday announced that eight of the fourteen associations pre-qualified for political party registration have successfully completed the upload of all required documentation through its online portal.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, at the end of the Commission’s regular meeting held on Thursday in Abuja.

According to INEC, the development marks a significant milestone in the ongoing process to register new political parties in Nigeria, which began following its earlier update on September 11, 2025.

Following a briefing session for 14 pre-qualified political associations on September 17, 2025, INEC opened a dedicated portal for the submission of required information and documents from September 18 to October 18, 2025.

By the close of the portal at midnight on October 18, INEC said eight associations had completed the process. They include: All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA), Abundance Social Party (ASP), African Alliance Party (AAP), Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Green Future Party (GFP), National Democratic Party (NDP) and Peoples Freedom Party (PFP).

INEC stated that the next phase involves a detailed assessment and verification of the submitted information and documents.

This verification stage will determine whether each association meets the constitutional and legal requirements for registration as a political party.

“The next step in the registration process is the detailed assessment and verification of the information and documents submitted by each association,” the statement read.

“This stage will ensure conformity with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties (2022).”

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic culture through adherence to due process in the registration exercise.

The Commission did not indicate a specific timeline for the conclusion of the verification process or the formal registration of any new parties.
