The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Professor Idayat Bolanle Owolabi, a Nigerian-born academic and health professional, on her recent recognition as a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) by His Majesty King Charles III.

Professor Owolabi, an alumna of the University of Ibadan, received the prestigious honour during the King’s Birthday Honours 2025, announced on October 10, 2025, in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the health sector in the United Kingdom.

In a statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit at NiDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa praised the award as a historic milestone and a testament to the excellence, integrity, and resilience of Nigerians making global impact.

“Professor Owolabi’s success is a source of immense pride for Nigeria and the entire diaspora community,” Dabiri-Erewa said. “Her recognition by His Majesty King Charles III powerfully underscores the immense talent in our diaspora community. We are proud of her and anticipate even greater achievements ahead.”

The NiDCOM boss further noted that such recognitions serve as powerful reminders of the positive global footprint of Nigerians abroad. She reiterated the Commission’s commitment to celebrating and supporting Nigerians in the diaspora whose professional achievements and personal integrity continue to elevate the country’s image worldwide.

“Every such milestone challenges negative stereotypes and reinforces Nigeria’s reputation as a nation of achievers,” Dabiri-Erewa added.

Professor Owolabi’s award places her among a distinguished group of Nigerians who have been honoured by the British monarchy for outstanding service in their respective fields.

NiDCOM, established to engage and empower Nigerians living abroad, continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening the bond between the diaspora community and their home country, while promoting national pride through the celebration of global excellence.
