Contrary to the rumours of fee hike which lead students of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurrun ( FUPRE) Delta State to protest peacefully on Wednesday 8 October, the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) J. One Omayine said there was no such increase by the school management.

According to her “the attention of Management has been drawn to a document circulating on social media, purportedly containing the students’ charges for the 2025/2026 academic session. That document did not emanate from the University, and students are advised to disregard it.”

The statement further urged students to resume normal academic activities, reaffirming that no new charges had been approved by the institution’s governing council.

Earlier students of the FUPRE have staged a peaceful protest on Wednesday morning, on a purported increase in school and hostel fees introduced by the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Engr. Edafetano Agbalagba.

Some group of students blocked the East-West Road with tyres, wood and cars, chanting “We no go pay”, “We no go gree” and waving several placards decrying the hike in tuition and accommodation fees.

Some of the placards read “Agabalgba Out”, “Say No To Increment”

According to protesting students, the new fee structure allegedly raised tuition from ₦87,000 to ₦144,500 for returning students and ₦194,500 for final-year students.

With the statement of the registrar and the timely intervention of security personnel the situation is now calm.

However some students who spoke off camera said the circular was true and that it was being hatched but was leaked and the students had to act swiftly which took management unaware.
