Chairman of the Gombe State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Faruk Muazu Gombe, has pledged the commitment of Journalists in the State to remain steadfast in amplifying voices that promote peace, equity, and national cohesion.

Faruk made the pledge in a jointly signed statement with the council secretary, Shuaibu Umar, marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary and and Gombe State’s 29th anniversary.

The union also pledge it’s commitment to upholding the truth, accountability, and development journalism while recognizing the enduring spirit of the Nigerian people, resilience in the face of adversity.

It called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and determined in times of uncertainty to shape a better future, stressing, “the story of Nigeria is one of diversity and dynamism, and the NUJ remains steadfast in amplifying voices that promote peace, equity, and national cohesion”.

It said Nigeria’s 65th Independence and Gombe State’s 29th year of creation, “are milestones that offer a profound opportunity to reflect on our shared journey, celebrate our achievements, and renew our commitment to building a more united, prosperous, and democratic society.

“In celebrating Gombe State’s 29th anniversary, we pay special tribute to the visionary leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, and Chairman of the Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

“His administration has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to inclusive governance, infrastructural transformation, and environmental sustainability. Under his stewardship, Gombe continues to rise as a model of strategic planning and people-centered development”, he stated.

Comrade Faruk also commended Governor Yahaya’s support for media freedom and engagement which has fostered a healthy environment for journalism to thrive.

According to him, “His openness to dialogue and partnership with the press has strengthened democratic values and enhanced public trust. The NUJ Gombe State Council commends his efforts in promoting transparency, innovation, and regional collaboration across Northern Nigeria.

“As journalists, we remain committed to our role as watchdogs of society, partners in progress, and defenders of truth.

“The NUJ Gombe State Council is always available for partnerships and collaborations that advance the public interest, promote civic education, and support sustainable development. We believe that a vibrant media ecosystem is essential to the growth of Gombe State and the nation at large.

“On this historic day, we also honour the sacrifices of our heroes past and the aspirations of our youth. We call on all stakeholders, Government, civil society, and the private sector to continue investing in education, press freedom, and community empowerment. Together, we can build a future where every citizen has a voice and every story matters”, the statement emphasized.
