The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Monday announced that over 4.4 million Nigerians pre-registered online within four weeks of the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The Commission also disclosed that no fewer than 509,929 have completed their physical registration within the period.
According to a statement issued by National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, a total of 4,445,505 citizens completed online pre-registration between August 18 and September 14, 2025.
The gender breakdown shows that 2,141,294 (48.17%) are male, while 2,304,211 (51.83%) are female. Young people dominated the process, with 2,924,643 (65.79%) aged between 18 and 34, while students accounted for 1,112,344 (25.02%) of registrants.
Completed Registrations
INEC further disclosed that as of Friday, September 12, 2025, the combined figure of completed online pre-registration and physical (in-person) registration stood at 509,929. Out of this, 229,758 (45.06%) are male and 280,171 (54.94%) are female.
Young people again made up the majority, with 378,132 (74.15%) aged 18–34, while students constituted 196,529 (38.54%) of those who had completed the process.
Olumekun noted that the detailed distribution of registrations by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability had been uploaded to INEC’s official website and other platforms for public access.
Focus on FCT Registration
The Commission reiterated that online pre-registration in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) would close at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025.
For the next two weeks, in-person registration will continue at designated venues across the territory. Thereafter, INEC will decentralize registration to all 62 wards in the FCT, with the exercise running from September 29 to October 8, 2025.
The Commission also confirmed that the detailed addresses of these ward-level centers have been published on its official platforms to guide registrants.
Olumekun assured Nigerians of INEC’s commitment to ensuring transparency, accessibility, and inclusivity in the voter registration process, urging eligible citizens to seize the opportunity to register or update their details.
