As the Speaker of the Cross River House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, embarks on an empowerment programme in his constituency, he says that God does not choose the qualified, but qualifies the chosen.
Making the disclosure during his empowerment programme for
constituents in Edor, Ikom II State Constituency, the Speaker also enumerated his achievements and reaffirmed his commitment to the people.
According to Ayambem who was accompanied by his wife, Nelly, he was in the area to honour the people in appreciation of their continuous love and support since his emergence, as their representative.
“God does not choose the qualified, but qualifies the chosen. I am here to thank you for the love and support you have given me from day one till this moment.
“I charge you to keep hope alive and continue supporting our governor, Prince Bassey Otu, because there is none who can do it better than him,” the Speaker said.
He commended Otu and his wife, Eyoanwan, for their people-focused governance, stressing that every local government in the state is feeling the impact of their leadership.
Ayambem further disclosed the projects and interventions he has facilitated for his constituency to include,
appointment and employment opportunities for 56 persons, completion of a 3-classroom block in Eganga Community School as well as the completion of a 6-classroom block in Ejiwor Primary School.
Others, he mentioned were the completion of a 3-classroom block in Nyarankpo community school, solar-powered borehole in Nsak Mission, ongoing road construction in Nde 3 Corners and Etikpe inland road in Abanyom.
Also in the list were the construction of a major culvert across Nsak Mission, Ayughasa, roofing of a 6-classroom block in Ayughasa Community Primary School, ongoing bridge construction across Oyeghe-Eganga-Ntansele axis in Ntansele ward and ongoing solar-powered borehole in Ejirawor, Nde.
At the empowerment programme proper and aimed to strengthen the economic base of his constituents, the Speaker distributed cars, motorcycles, sewing machines, generators, industrial spray pumps, grinding machines, wheelbarrows, educational materials and farm tools
.
Wife of the Speaker, Mrs Nelly Ayambem, used the opportunity to distribute wrappers, bags of rice and cash gifts to women as support to her husband’s empowerment programme.
She thanked the governor and wife for their continuous support for women in the state.
The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Emmanuel Ironbar, commended Ayambem for always returning to thank his people and delivering on his promises.
“The Speaker has done so well, and there is no better way to appreciate your people than coming back to them.
“The love will never stop, the empowerment may not go round today, but with time, it will reach everyone,” Otu assured.
He urged the people of Ikom II to continue to support the present administration in the state, noting that all campaign promises made would be fulfilled step by step.
He also emphasized the need for love and unity among constituents.
The empowerment program drew wide applause from beneficiaries and community stakeholders, who pledged their continued support for Speaker Ayambem’s leadership and the administration of Prince Bassey Otu.
