The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Monday said over 3.5 million Nigerians have pre-registered online within the first three weeks of the commencement of the on going nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
Besides, the commission revealed that 288,614 have completed their physical registration.

According to the statement issued by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the online pre-registration platform has recorded a total of 3,544,850 applications as at Sunday, September 7, 2025.
INEC in its latest update said of this figure, 1,709,933 (48.24%) are male, while 1,834,917 (51.76%) are female. Young people continue to dominate the process, with 2,291,809 (64.65%) aged between 18 and 34 years, and 882,441 (24.89%) identified as students.

INEC also provided a combined update on the ongoing physical (in-person) registration, which began on August 25, 2025.
According to the commission, as of Thursday, September 4, 2025, the cumulative figure of completed registrations stood at 288,614, comprising 132,634 males (45.96%) and 155,980 females (54.04%).

Again, young Nigerians made up the majority, with 215,414 (74.64%) aged 18 to 34, while 114,150 (39.55%) were students.

The Commission has uploaded detailed breakdowns of registrations by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability to its website and official platforms for public information.

INEC commended Nigerians and civic organisations for their active participation and mobilisation of citizens for the exercise.

However, the Commission strongly warned against the registration of ineligible persons, particularly underage citizens.

“We wish to reiterate that voter registration is only open to citizens who are 18 years or older at the time of registration.

It is illegal for anyone to encourage underage registration or those below 18 years of age to register in anticipation that they will attain the legal age of voting by the time the general election holds in 2027,” the Commission stressed.

INEC said it remains committed to providing transparent and accessible data throughout the exercise, while calling on Nigerians to take advantage of both the online and physical options to ensure wider inclusion and participation in the country’s democratic process.

The CVR exercise, which combines digital convenience with in-person verification, is part of INEC’s strategy to improve electoral integrity and ensure that only eligible voters are on the register ahead of the 2027 general elections.
