INEC issues Certificates of Return to newly elected Senators, House of Representatives members

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday formally presented Certificates of Return (CoR) to two senators-elect and five members-elect of the House of Representatives who emerged victorious in the recent bye-elections conducted across different states of the federation.

The ceremony, which took place at the INEC Headquarters in Abuja, followed the conclusion of senatorial and House of Representatives bye-elections conducted to fill vacant seats in Anambra, Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and Oyo States.

The two senators-elect that received their certificates are Nwachukwu Emmanuel Chibuzor of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who won the bye-election for Anambra South Senatorial District and Ikpea Joseph Igiagbe of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who emerged winner of the Edo Central Senatorial District.

For the House of Representatives Seats tye Five lawmakers-elect are: Igbinedion Omosede Gabriella (APC), elected for Ovia North East/Ovia South West Federal Constituency, Edo State; Mukhtar Rabiu Garki (APC), elected for Babura/Garki Federal Constituency, Jigawa State, Joseph Fidelix Bagudu (APC), elected for Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Kaduna State; Elegbeji Adesola Yetunde Ayoola (APC), elected for Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, Ogun State and Oyekunle Fola Sunday (PDP), elected for Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Oyo State.

Certificates of Return for members-elect of State Houses of Assembly in the weekend by-elections will be presented by the respective Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the Commission’s state offices on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to credible elections and transparency in the electoral process while urging the newly elected lawmakers to prioritize the interests of their constituents as they prepare to assume legislative duties.
