The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the death of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, Nigeria’s Consul General in Buea, Republic of Cameroon, describing his passing as a huge loss to the nation and the diplomatic community.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Ambassador Coker passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025, after a brief illness.
The late diplomat, who was widely regarded as a dedicated and hardworking public servant, served the country in several capacities during his distinguished career. Before his appointment to head Nigeria’s Consulate in Buea, Cameroon, Ambassador Coker had served in Nigeria’s missions in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China, where he earned respect for his professionalism, commitment, and contributions to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.
“Ambassador Coker was a hardworking and dedicated career diplomat who served Nigeria with distinction, commitment and professionalism. His untimely death is a great loss to the diplomatic community and the nation at large,” the statement read.
The Ministry expressed its deepest condolences to the diplomat’s immediate family, colleagues, and friends, while offering prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Ambassador Coker’s passing is the latest in a string of losses within Nigeria’s diplomatic service, underscoring the personal sacrifices made by career diplomats who dedicate their lives to representing and protecting the nation’s interests abroad.
