The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Thursday 21 2025 date for the presentation of Certificates of Return to winners in the last Saturday by-elections.

The Commission was able to successfully complete 15 of the 16 by-elections conducted for two Senatorial Districts, five Federal Constituencies, and eight State Assembly Constituencies.

The by-election for Kaura Namoda South State Constituency of Zamfara State was however declared inconclusive as a result of disruption in five polling units across two wards.

In a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, elected federal lawmakers are expected to pick up their certificates at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

He said the presentation will take place by 3:00 p.m. while elected-state Assembly members are directed to pick up their certificates of return at the State offices on Friday 22 August 2025.

On the Kaura Namoda South State Constituency of Zamfara State, the Commission disclosed that a supplementary poll has been slated for Thursday 21 August.

He stated: “The Returning Officer was unable to declare a winner due to incidents of violence and emergencies that disrupted voting in five polling units across two wards, affecting 3,572 registered voters, of whom 3,265 had collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
With the margin of lead standing at 1,662 votes, INEC invoked Section 24(3) and (4) of the Electoral Act 2022, mandating a supplementary election in the affected polling units. This has been scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025.”

INEC therefore reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, noting that the public will continue to be updated on all Commission activities.

Those expected in Abuja are: Senators-elect for Anambra South and Edo Central Senatorial Districts, and Members of the House of Representatives-elect for Ovie North East and Ovie South West (Edo State), Babura/Garki (Jigawa State), Chikun/Kajuru (Kaduna State), Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North (Ogun State), and Ibadan North (Oyo State).

For State Houses of Assembly, Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) will present certificates to members-elect in their respective state offices on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Beneficiaries include winners from:
• Ganye (Adamawa), Onitsha North I (Anambra), Basawa and Zaria/Kewaye (Kaduna), Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa (Kano), Okura (Kogi), Munya (Niger), and Karim Lamido I (Taraba).
