The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has disclosed that 69,376 Nigerians completed their online voter pre-registration within the first seven hours of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which commenced nationwide on Monday.
According to a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, the CVR portal went live at 8:30 a.m., and by 3:30 p.m., tens of thousands of citizens had already logged on to begin the registration process.
A breakdown of the figure revealed that 33,803 (48.7%) are male, while 35,573 (51.3%) are female.
INEC also disclosed that young Nigerians aged 18 to 34 years accounted for 48,033 registrants, representing 69.2% of those who registered on the opening day.

The commission noted that the registration portal, https://cvr.inecnigeria.org, is accessible 24 hours daily, providing Nigerians with a flexible and convenient way to initiate their voter registration process.

INEC announced that in-person registration will commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, at its 811 state and local government offices nationwide, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays.

This option, the statement said, will serve both Nigerians who prefer physical registration and those who began the process online but need to complete it in person.

INEC stressed that both the online and physical registration options will run simultaneously throughout the CVR period, in line with the commission’s earlier schedule.

The electoral body disclosed that it will begin releasing weekly updates on the CVR exercise from next week. These updates will include detailed breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability.

INEC reminded the public that only Nigerian citizens aged 18 years and above who have not previously registered as voters are permitted to do so.

The commission warned against double or multiple registrations, describing them as violations of the law, but clarified that inter-state and intra-state transfers, as well as the replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), will be accommodated during the CVR period.

“The CVR is a critical step in ensuring inclusive participation in the 2027 general elections, and we encourage all eligible Nigerians to seize this opportunity to register,” Olumekun said.
